This will be a most memorable weekend of light music-making. A pianist familiar with 'piano scores' welcome. Wind, string & brass orchestral instruments, plus percussion. Strings the more the merrier, as long as there is some sort of balance between sections, from grade 6+, front desks grade 8+. For the winds and brass, one per part is the order of the day, and a playing level of grade 8 plus. (You do not need a certificate, but some indication of level of experience will be welcome, so that I can ensure balance. I will let you know as soon as I can whether your application has been accepted.) Clarinets/trumpets in A as well as Bb essential, unless you are a transposing wizard. An S/AATB quartet of saxophonists would find occasional employ with the orchestra, and could avail themselves of my collection of sax quartets the rest of the time!
Piano:- 7 1/2 octave Suzuki digital piano with weighted keys and full sound via amplifier.
There will be a programme of set pieces – do ask to have a set to practice before you come! We will also be doing some light-hearted sight reading, checking out some of the more obscure numbers in my vast Light Orchestra library.
There will be a free period from lunch to tea-time Saturday afternoon. There is the open Oxfordshire countryside for walks, or various places of interest, including Oxford itself, within an easy drive. Alternatively, my wind & strings chamber music will be available for ad hoc groups (which I would love to join in with!)
